Verb help please?

Question: can anyone help me with this i cant get my head around it. what am i meant to be looking for?
i have to identify the four verbs which are in the present tense and write them in the past tense

the results of a recent study revealed that learners who embarked on vocational courses during 2003, in either educational establishments or in their places of work, found great difficulty organising their free time. when they try to include the study needed to achieve the results they hope to gain they often sought out their tutor or trainer and ask for assistance with this difficult aspect of time management. this request for help generally resulted in useful suggestions and the learners find that their tutors, teachers or trainers were supportive.
Answers: try,gain,achieve,include,hope and ask
tried
gained
achieved
included
hoped
asked
(I found 6)
Try -- Tried
Hope -- hoped
gain -- gained
ask -- asked
The verbs in the present tense are the doing words,

ie try goes to tried in past tense

hope goes to hoped

ask goes to asked

find goes to found

All the other verbs are in the pasty tense, esually denoted by -ed at the end of a verb formation
TRY, TRIED
FIND, FOUND
HOPE, HOPED
ASK, ASKED

i was only trying! don't rely on my answers!
You're probably confused because when identifying the Present Tense, many think of Present Continuous, ie., something that's happening right now, whereas the examples above are all Present Simple; this is the tense used to express the idea that an action is repeated or usual. The action can be a habit, a hobby, a daily event, a scheduled event or something that often happens. The Past Tense, as usual, indicates that it's already happened.
try - tried
hope - hoped
ask - asked
find - found
The sense of the word 'help' in this passage means that it's a noun, not a verb.
If you go to the website below, you will find more info regarding verbs that you may find helpful in the future.
I just wanted to add to be clear that the 4 main verbs found above are correct (try, ask, find, hope - tried, asked, found, hoped) - Some people found more as they were including verbs in the infinitive e.g. to gain, to acheive, to include - that is why these verbs are not part of the answer that you want.
