My daughter is a bright, intelligent 15 year old who has always been a delight to be around. I really don't
Question: have much to complain about when it comes to raising her. The one problem, however, is that she doesn't take her education seriously. She doesn't mind getting D's or even F's on her report card. How can I instill in her a desire to get good grades and convince her that her future is riding upon the efforts she is putting forth today?
Answers: Hi! I also had a son like this this and I thought his career goal would be pumping gas. He is now in Med school. Surprise to me. Strong arming any child doesn't work. But finding their passion does. Little did I realize he wanted to come to work with me and watch what I did. If that doesn't do it, find some one she admires and take her to work. The grades are reflective of not having a passion to see a future. So help her find one. Part time work in any area of interest can stimulate an interest or an awareness. My oldest step-daughter became an ER Nurse and was pregnant at 18. SHE loved how the nursese treated her with respect and kindness and did not look down on her. My other step daughter had learning issues and is now a teacher. So open the doors for her to look at a lot of options and NOT get down on her. Looking at options and not fall outs will give her the courage to look ahead and not beat herself up. She knows the grades mean failure, find her success. That is your job right now. Open the communication and look at what she likes. Keep at it until she finds her passion and interest. Then you will find the avenue to help her. It may take some time, but don't give up, she needs you right now to direct and help her with kindness and courage. She is falling apart with bad grades and needs you now to help her over this hurdle. M
Your bright delightful child could have some hidden learning disabilities and has developed her attitude as a coping mechanism. Ask her school for a full evaluation-and don't let them talk you out of it or deny her one.
Im going to tell u how to answer this. If she likes to go and hang with her friends that would end till she got good grades.
You are the father u tell her what to do and when to do it . In my oppinion take everthing away until she got good grades. Or she will take advantage of u because u didnt punish her for her bad grades and im sure u dont want that.
Maybe you should talk with her about her goal in life and plan out step by step how she will achieve it. You can also show her the harsh consequences of not taking education seriously. Also interest her in learning maybe ask her what's her favorite academic subject and buy some books on that topic for her.
You can try reward and punishment to get her to do her work.
Have her tested to see if she has a learning disability.
Take her to visit a jail and explain to her the educational background of most of the prisoners.
well show her that if she doesnt get good grades slowly cute her privilges from her like a party at her frends house. if she gets anoter C or D then no parties of frends houses for a month.
also if she sees that super cute shirt at the mall tell her she can't buy it because if she doesnt care about her grades right now she wont get into a good university and get a good job so then she wont have any money to get wat she wants. tell her IF SHE WANTS TO GET ANYTHING SHE WANTS SHE SHOULD GET GOOD GRADES THAT WILL MAKE HER GET A GOOD JOB SO SHE WILL HAVE ENOUGH MONEY IN THE FUTURE.
and if she still gets bad grades than be more strict and take away more privileges, take away her electricity, her tv, ipod, , phone etc. telling her that with grades u get money from a job.
u see what im trying to tell u????
I THINK U SHOULD BE IMPRESSED BECAUSE IM A 14 YEAR OLD TELLING THIS TO YOU. I THINK FROM THIS YOU SHOULD CONCIEVE THAT I UNDNERSTAND THE TOPIC OF GRADES AND I RESPECT EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE AND ALSO RESPECT MONEY.
good luck.!!!!!!

Send her over my friend...I will treat her like the rest of my students, she will be perfect in a second.
Hey Comet- make sure she is not having troubles in certain subjects or with learning. If not, you might have to pull rank and pull privileges if she does poorly. She may not realize the impact her grades now will have on her life later and it might be up to you to enforce it.
Good luck!!
