Sex education in schools?
Question: Is it me or has everybody in secondary school stopped teaching about sex education. Because I really want them to bring it back seeing as when I am older I want to be a midwife but I think that they should start teaching it again also for the help of teenagers and teenage pregnancy!
Answers: Well I thought that, but last year my two youngest stepchildren (10 and 8) said they had sex education at their school. If anything, I think it is being pushed more on younger children nowadays to get it through to them earlier in life!
I think there should be sex education in secondary school, see we don't make them aware they just going to learn it anyway.. but that would be practical and that would be worse right, well the education just not just teach them stuff biologically, they should also teach them the after effects of not having safe sex and stuff
I agree it is because of a couple of parents who object when i think it should be compulsory and set on random dates so no-one knows its going to happen because to be fair these are things every teenager has the right to know about themselves and their bodies and as some parents would be happier to teach them themselves the timing can be too late and there are alot of other parents who just aren't up to the task, just because you are good parent doesn't mean others are.
It really depends a lot on what state you're in. I know that in my state, I had sex education from 4th grade through 9th grade. Each state decides a lot of the curriculum, and what is not mandated by the National Government and the State Government is left up to the individual district to decide.
If you are concerned that there is not enough sex education in schools, and you have valid reasons for your thinking (and you do), you should start off by talking to your parents, teachers and administrators about it. Bring up your reasoning, and see what it will take to bring about change. If it takes meeting with your principle, or having a parent or teacher bring it up at a PTA meeting, and you achieve your goal, it's worth it.
i've got sex education next yr in school
Sex Education is taught in schools. It is not technically compulsory but it is very difficult for parents to have their children opt out of it, My child was humiliated and asked publicly in front of all the class why they did not attend the annual optional explicit sex educational talk with adult videos and film clips.
It is up to the LEAs to decide how they wish to enforce sex education as they are duty bound to provide it as it is their legal obligation.
Children are also taught sex education in biology classes as well as citizenship classes. In fact far from being a side subject hardly mentioned it is continually talked about as are alchol consumption and illegal drug abuse in Chemistry, PE and also citizenship classes.
Rest assured the government is very keen to promote this to all pupils as are political charities such as Stonewall.
The responsibilty for sex education is with the parents. It is forced on the schools by all governments pandering to the failure of parents in this aspect. Children should not be fobbed off with sayings like, You'll learn about that later , when they ask their parents sex related questions. A lot of it is down to religious inhibitions. Some of my children's mates who's parents are of this nature are now pregnant teenagers. You have a duty not to let your inhibitions stand in the way of informing your children. DB
i think someone opposed teaching sex ed...hehehe...
I have never believed in sex education in schools. Prior to this being taught there was never any talk of teenage pregnancies or homosexuality. Now anything goes and lookm at the state of the world. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing
