How do you know when you are a Valedictorian/Salutatorian?

Question: Well, supose you apply to Stanford in December. How does Stanford know you are a valedictorian? I mean the applicant will be informed whether he or she is a valedictorian only in June or May right? How will you know beforehand so that you can record this great achievement in the application?
Answers: Your counselor should know. Also, on the application, the parts that the counselor fills in include class rank/percentile. If you're ranked 3rd in the class, for example, then it will say that in the application, and the college will know that you may be, or are close to being, valedictorian/salutatorian.

Ask your counselor now what your class rank is, and most of the time, if you're in line to be valedictorian or salutatorian, then your counselor lets you know after a year or two of high school.
Your adviser should be able to determine your CURRENT position in your class. This might change after graduation obviously.

So you could say somthing like 2nd in class of 500, but not salutatorian.
You probably won't be able to know until the finals are all finished. In the meantime, just record your GPA and ask the school to inform you ASAP if you are the valedictorian.
ask you guidance counselor if they can find out whether you are going to be a valedictorian or getting other scholastic awards so that you can place in on your application
