How do u build up vocabulary for GRE exams?

Question: the GRE (graduate aptitude test) requires a very extensive vocabulary, which is i think much tough for non-native english speakers. i would like to ask those who are preparing for GRE exam about how they are preparing for the thier vocabulary test. the barrons book listed 3000 words, almost half of them i found new to me . how to u guys?
Answers: The best way to learn words is writing them down by making flash cards. Giving yourself realistic goals of memorizing these words will help even more. Like each week learn about 40 words or whatever feels comfortable to you. Otherwise if you go through too many words at once, chances are that you wont be able to remember them.
Flashcards really are the best. Using packaged cards from any reputable source will save you time. The best ones will have the word on one side; and the definition and an example sentence on the other.

When studying your flashcards, look at the word and try to think of the definition. If you get the word right and are confident that you know it, put the card in one pile. If you get the word wrong, or if you aren't confident in your definition, put the card in a second pile. If you don't know the word at all, put the card in a third pile.

Focus your studying on the second and third piles. (Study the first pile when you need an ego boost.) Pay special attention to the second pile: there are certain words (e.g., cupidity) which have definitions which are very often misremembered, and these can find their ways into test questions.

The previous answerer is right: don't overdo it, especially if you have some time before you test. Don't expect to memorize 3,000 words in a week. However, try to move some more words everyday into that first pile.
